ABOUT

Ned Bowen is a former University of Virginia defenseman and co-captain of the 2003 NCAA National Championship team.

After college, he played professionally in the MLL with the Boston Cannons, San Francisco Dragons, and later on the LXM Pro Tour, bringing pro-level experience, discipline, and competitive standards to every training environment.

He holds a Master’s in Special Education and spent ten years teaching K–12, developing deep expertise in multi-modal learning, communication, individualized feedback, and player-driven development. This foundation directly shapes his coaching approach: clear instruction, high expectations, and an unmistakable passion for helping every athlete understand, improve, and grow.

With more than twenty-five years of coaching experience across youth, high school, and elite club levels, his training model blends technical defensive excellence, lacrosse IQ, communication, timing, physicality, and mental performance — all rooted in the NB-18 philosophy:

“Chasing Greatness — Where Good Becomes Great.”

Beyond lacrosse, Ned’s other passion is nature, sustainability, and growing nutrient-dense food. This led him to launch Mama B’s Greens, a vertical, aeroponic tower-garden company specializing in fresh lettuce, leafy greens, herbs, and other produce.

Mama B’s Greens also helps families and individuals grow their own food at home by providing the same Tower Garden systems, expert guidance, and weekly harvest planning.

Whether on the field or in the garden, Ned is driven by the same principles: growth, development, teaching, and elevating people to reach their potential - ONE DAY AT A TIME.

Who We Are

  • Founded by championship‑level coach, Ned Bowen, NB18 Lacrosse is an elite, defense-first lacrosse program built on precision reps, curated competition, and composure under pressure.
  • Our curriculum spans from footwork, stickwork, checks and timing, communication/defensive vocabulary, contact mechanics, disrupting‑and‑recovery principles, ride/clear systems, to the mental mindset required to win each possession.

What We Do

  • Defense‑only training
  • Film & performance breakdown
  • Off‑field mentoring & recruiting guidance
  • Culture: Understanding the position and team defense to then add the "8th defender," the mental aspect of the game
  • On-field consulting, practice partnerships and team development programs

Our Pillars

Tactics:

Team defensive systems—slide, recover, stick up in passing lanes, rides/clears, and man‑down execution under clock and scenario constraints.

Technique:

  • Footwork, approach angles, stick discipline, body positioning and check timing refined through high‑quality reps.

Thinking:

  • The 8th Defender mindset—situational awareness, breath & reset, OODA Loop and leadership that elevates a unit.

Timing:

  • Stick checks, Sliding and different slide packages, Present & Recover, and Game Situations (end of quarter, 2-minute drill).
